
Oika is a scientifically informed, spiritually inspired and culturally creative response to the spectrum of crises threatening the flourishing of life on Earth. In the face of the constellation of maladies known as the “metacrisis,” Oika presents a new paradigm to experience, relate, understand and thrive.

Oika breaks the spell of anxiety and habitual doomsday thinking by regaining a reasonable grip on the reality of our situation. We are invited to take stock of the natural abundance all around us and participate in the simple intrinsic resiliencies that have always been active in the world by activating them within ourselves.
I work as a science interpreter - taking rigorous field research and rendering it into moments that hit people viscerally, not just intellectually. I help people understand the science through the emerging lens of ecological dynamics, so that they may recognize their identity as Earthlings, with all the expanded capacity, joy, and resilience that brings. I often demonstrate this through a messiness and passion for science through genuine curiosity and direct experience rather than polished pedagogy. This method draws on my 30 years of habitat immersion across six continents.
As a Visiting Visionary, I also create programming that expands people's operational sense of who they are. Participants leave with a bigger identity - one that includes deep evolutionary ancestry, ecological relationships, and a shared fate with living systems. This isn't abstract philosophy; it generates practical intelligence for navigating our pivotal ecological moment.
I offer accessible science communication that creates lasting shifts in how people understand themselves and their relationship to the living world, delivered through Earth Story Walks, workshops, and public presentations that combine scientific rigor with transformative experience.

Our times call for new imaginative capacities to see prosperity simultaneously grounded in the realities of ecological abundance. This requires first and foremost curiosity. If you are incurious, you are probably incurable. Young minds (regardless of age) may think they know everything, but they also know that they don't. The Enlightenment worldview now carefully accepts the more ancient and indigenous understandings of our place and purpose in the cosmos. We now agree scientifically that everything is interconnected and interdependent both objectively and subjectively. This ontological continuity of nature pre-configures justice as a universal impulse. What we do to the “other” we do to ourselves.

Contrary to the commonly held misconception, Humanity is the only family of Earthlings to have lived in sustained and intimate relationship with every habitat on this planet. Our unique history with the Earth empowers us more than any other species to know, enjoy and care for this rare world. Rich Blundell's Earthling Theory implies there are no out-groups in the Earth-generative view. We are all indigenous and our human diversity perfectly reflects the Earth’s diversity. Embracing our endowment of unity binds us together and prepares us to accept and value all diversity.

All systems on Earth (economic, social, cultural, technological, etc.) emerge from and depend on the ecological systems of nature. If the underlying natural systems fail, all systems follow. Our resilience and our fate is tied to the land. We are Earthbound. You can't just buy your way to the stars for the price of a planet. If we keep denying the simple pleasures of ecological happiness here on Earth, we shouldn't expect the galaxy to welcome us with open arms.

Nature is source. All that springs from nature does so only through relationships. Everything, including us, are nothing but relationships. The qualities of emergent phenomena carry the qualities of their originating relationships. Ecology is the study of relationships. Oika holds ecological understanding universally to include the relationships of human, non-human, living, non-living, material, non-material, profane, sacred, ad-infinitum…

To move through the world is to be entangled in a potent field of forces. This field manifests as our experiences of symmetry and surprise, habit and expectation, both fulfilled and broken. The field we inherit feels comfortable, cherished and constraining. The field we generate feels earned, empowering, and expansive. We make meaning of the field through bodily sensation, stories, imagination and paying attention. When life is fieldwork, work is play. This seems to be what life is for.

We’ve collectively suffered many generations of social trauma and economic injury. To transition to a more beautiful future we must elevate healing to the highest fulfillment of human purpose, and at industrial scale. We must recouple economic wealth to ecological health. Let ours be the first of many "Healing Generations'' that begin to transition our inherited economies of exploitation and extraction into a Healing Economy where all work and life cultivates personal and planetary prosperity.

Art and science have always been how humanity changes the world. Through science we know enough and through art we can feel enough to create a more prosperous and joyous future for all life on Earth. When art feels what science reveals the world heals. We should stop thinking of the future only in terms of imminent degradation. If there is to be a future, it must be beautiful. We know enough. Now we need only feel enough gratitude and conjure enough imagination to make it so.

1. CONTINUITY - No separation between you and the cosmos that created you
What it means: Your consciousness isn't isolated but continuous with the same creative intelligence that builds galaxies and orchestrates ecosystems.
How you feel it: Standing under the stars, at the ocean's edge, on a mossy boulder, or with your hands in the soil, you recognize the same creative force that formed the cosmos also flows through your own awareness.
The practice: Contact epistemology—touching rocks, tasting honeysuckle, noticing light, projecting consciousness into the relational space around you.
2. RELATIONALITY - Intelligence emerges through right-relationship, not mere transaction or computation
What it means: The universe operates through relationship at every scale—from cosmic microwave background radiation creating the first ecosystems of light to human consciousness emerging through connection.
How you recognize it: "Wrong relation" reveals itself through heartbreak, anxiety, and ecological destruction—all symptoms of disconnection from life's creative flow. Right-relation creates through beauty and joy.
The practice: Learning to feel the difference between right and wrong relationship, letting nature be the arbiter of what serves life's flourishing.
3. ENTANGLEMENT - Your consciousness extends beyond your skull into living relationships and from them
What it means: Through sustained contact with what you love, your identity becomes distributed in relational space rather than trapped behind your eyes.
How you access it: Acknowledging how the Earth's diverse ecosystems generate human consciousness naturally extends the self into the world.
The practice: Letting love guide knowing and radical affection—projecting love toward trees, rocks, and landscapes, then feeling intelligence reflected back from the living world.
