Oika Spain: El Hondo Wetland

Oika Spain: El Hondo Wetland is an Oika Project led by Oika-certified artist and technologist Fred Adam. Since 2017, Fred has been caring for, learning from, and inviting others into El Hondo Wetland in Costa Blanca, Spain. A journey for environmental and social healing, Fred's work is to regenerate the roots of the local community with the wetland through collaborative art making, oikanomics, and restoration efforts in partnership with AHSA (Friends of the Southern Alicante Wetlands). 

Public Offerings: The Hut at El Hondo Wetland has become a hotspot for several activities including wetland tours, nature workshops, art exhibitions, and artist residencies. Additionally, data being collected by ecologists at the wetland doubles as an oikanomic biomarker. The value of art and other offerings from El Hondo Wetland are linked to this biomarker and a portion of proceeds from all transactions is funneled directly into wetland restoration efforts.
