It may seem like a paradox, but an essential element in any ecologically intelligent collaboration is participant sovereignty. Only after two organisms have established their own “independent” security, can they effectively turn their attentions to taking creative risks with others.
So, in an effort to support Oika artists in establishing their own sovereignty, Oika is launching a new program to promote artists that exemplify the principles of ecological intelligence in their work.
The premise behind this initiative is that happily sovereign artists will make better collaborators in future Oika projects (i.e. grant proposals, etc.). The basic model unfolds something like this:
Through this initiative, Oika aims to produce high-quality media that expresses and manifests ecological intelligence in culture. So it’s in our interest to promote and distribute the videos we will produce. This will get eyeballs on your work in an attractive and meaningful way. The artist is free to use these videos for self-promotion. They are also an opportunity to further develop your own understanding of ecological intelligence with your practice and develop relationships within the Oika community.
Finally, trust takes time. I see this as a great opportunity to cultivate relationships with individual artists who really understand what Oika is all about. I’ll be much more inclined to promote, support, invest in and invite to future Oika projects, those artists I have a track record with.
So, If you have a new or finished artwork that you think expresses one or more concepts of ecological intelligence, please submit it for consideration through the form below.
